Welcome!
This website was created to assist in-service and pre-service teachers as well as professors in the College of Education at NC State University involved in Project MiddleDATA to connect through video conferencing. Please continue reading to familiarize yourself with the process by which you can get connected through video conferencing. Or, for specific guidance, click on the links listed on the left.
The Process
| 1) |
Begin thinking about how you would like to incorporate
video conferencing into your class(es). How will students benefit
from the experience? What will be expected of the students? What
will the nature of the conference be? Will it be primarily for observations
or will there be a more structured interaction? |
| 2) |
Be sure to visit these websites to learn about
how other teachers and professors have integrated video conferencing
into their classes.

| 3) |
At this point, you will need to begin perusing
the pages on this tutorial about the specifics and logistics of
setting up and executing an effective video conference. Also,
you will need to begin (or continue) conversations with the media
specialist or technical assistance person at your school (for classroom
teachers) or your graduate student (for CED faculty). These
persons will be able to answer your questions about the ins-and-outs
of the technology involved in the process. |
| 4) |
Please take into consideration the recommendations
of the note on effective video conferencing. |
| 5) |
After you are clear on what you would like to accomplish
with your video conference, you will need to fill out the
following form which will notify Dr. Lisa Grable, Director
of the Learning Technologies Resource Center and Beckey Reed, Office of School
Services Consultant in the College of Education, of your desires
and intent. Please be as specific as possible as the information
that you provide will allow them to connect you to a conferencing
party that will be most effective for your needs. |
| 6) |
the form
After submitting the form, you will receive an email
which will give you further instructions. |
| 7) |
Preparing for the conference.
Make sure you are familiar with the equipment and that you have
had the necessary conversations with your technology specialist
and/or graduate student. |
| 8) |
Do the conference. |
| 9) |
Post-Conference: Be sure to write
down any personal reflections on the experience, as well as a brief
write-up on the effectiveness of the conference.
Also, have students fill out the following
reflection
form which will be used to collect data on the nature of and
effectiveness of the video conference. |
| 10) |
Return to Step #1 and repeat! |
