These resources are a collective effort resulting from a MEGA meeting March 21, 2007. Laura Fogle led us in a conversation about Cyber safety. Thanks to all who contributed to this resource.

--Myspace hints for teachers
Did you know how easy it is to search by first and last name to find an account?
The picture you use for your profile can be seen by anyone, keep it appropriate.
As a teacher, if you want to keep a Myspace account - set it to private so that only your known friends can interact - but your profile picture is still seen.
Why is this important?:
-
Human Resources are searching MySpace accounts before hiring
- Your students will find your account and circulate it. If anything inappropriate gets back to the parents or administration you could be fired (and it has happened already).
--Blogging hints
If you would like to promote blogging in your school - use safer websites, such as http://classblogmeister.com/ which provides a protective environment to your students, but they still get the opportunity to blog.
There are also some great resources on the web for teaching your students CyberSafety skills, such as:
http://www.nortellearnit.org/lessons/Business/CyberSmarts/ from Nortel LearniT.
Remember, students are going to use the Internet and MySpace. You can help the most by giving them the tools to navigate it correctly.
