Adult and Community College Education Charlotte-Based Executive Weekend Doctoral Distance Education Program

Admissions being considered for new cohort starting in January 2013. The Charlotte-based executive weekend doctoral cohort program provides a unique opportunity for working professionals. Housed in the Department of Adult and Higher Education, this program represents three and a half years of coursework offered on Friday evenings and Saturdays in a required course format. Courses will be in a variety of formats including face to face, online, and hybrid formats. Based in cutting edge curriculum in adult education, community college leadership, higher education administration and human resource development, past graduates have come from administrative, faculty, and consulting positions in community colleges, higher education, and government agencies; as well as other adult learner organizations. The program is focused upon collaborative, multi-disciplinary engagement, representing cutting-edge theory, research, and practice. 

Business & Marketing Program

Welcome to the Business and Marketing Education Program at North Carolina State University! We offer teacher education programs in Business and Marketing Education at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. We also offer an Initial Licensure Program for persons with degrees in business related areas who have been hired by local school systems on provisional licenses to teach courses in business and marketing education. Our program employs a variety of distance learning strategies to meet the various situational needs of teachers taking NCSU courses. 

Education Leadership Program

The Program in Educational Leadership for school administrators is designed to improve the quality of K-12 schools by preparing leaders who are dedicated to educational excellence and equity. Graduates are expected to use leadership strategies that will improve student performance in environments that are dynamic, interactive, and culturally diverse. 

Training & Development

The Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree in Training and Development is designed for entering or experienced training professionals who work in internal or external training positions in business, industry, military, government, and not-for-profit organizations. The program is structured around a core body of knowledge in adult education and principles and theories of human performance improvement. The curriculum builds advanced skills in program design and knowledge in the applications of learning theory incorporating principles, research, and practice. Individuals completing this program will have sufficient professional knowledge and skill for entry or advancement in instructional design, and instructional, administrative, or evaluation positions involving performance-based training. While the degree program is offered via online, it is built on principles of adult education emphasizing interaction, collaboration, and team learning. Designed to meet the needs of working adults, the program offers students the flexibility to progress through the curriculum on a full or part-time basis.

Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT)

The MAT program is an accelerated teacher licensure program that leads its students to both an initial teaching license and a Master’s degree in just a year and a half (full time). The MAT also leads completers to the 10% pay increase upon hire in one of North Carolina’s public/charter schools. The content areas being served by the MAT are Math, Science, Social Studies, English, Middle Grades (Language Arts or Social Studies), Technology Education, Special Education and Elementary Education.

MEd in Science Education

The MEd in science education is an on-line program designed to sharpen the knowledge and skills of experienced science educators. The program is intended for licensed precollege teachers (Grades 6-12), community college instructors, and informal educators (e.g., museum educators) or others who work in areas of science education. The program meets the requirements for the NC-DPI 10% pay increase upon hire in one of North Carolina’s public/charter schools. The curriculum also supports science

Graduate Certificate in E-Learning

The online Graduate Certificate in E-learning will provide professionals with specialized knowledge and skills to apply Internet and Web-based technologies within schools, higher education settings, community and corporate settings. Jointly offered through LPAHE and CI, this program has recently been approved. 

Graduate Certificate in Community College Teaching

The Graduate Certificate in Community College Teaching. focuses on developing the knowledge and skills necessary to design and deliver course-related content through technology-enhanced learning environments for faculty who teach in community colleges and other post secondary settings. The courses developed for the graduate certificate will enhance faculty abilities in both online and classroom environments.

Graduate Certificate in Counselor Education

The Graduate Certificate in Counselor Education is a one year online program is designed for teachers, administrators, advisors, and tutors in schools and universities; human service professionals; and individuals who are interested in increasing their counseling and communication skills.

Graduates of this program may help professional counselors by supporting the students/clients or will strengthen communication skills for their work.They may also apply to master's programs in counseling and transfer the credits from this program.
