We have selected specific development theories to teach at each of the three grade levels, sixth, seventh and eighth. Charity James, well known for her Needs Polarities Theory, will be taught to all grade levels. We believe that familiarity with the Needs Polarities enables a person to better understand herself and why specific needs makes her behave as she does. The project will also deal with certain aspects of physical development. We chose to teach these two elements at all grade levels because of their influence throughout adolescence. An outline of the other development theories and when they will be taught can be found below. To learn more about a particular theorist and his/her theory, click on their name and a new window will open providing the appropriate information.

We are clear that the following sketches of each of the theories to be taught are not exhaustive. These theories can be quite complex, however, we seek to simplify and highlight the parts that are easily understandable and can be shown as clearly applicable to early adolescent development.
