Candy Beal, Ed. D.

Candy Beal is an Associate Professor and Coordinator of the Undergraduate Middle Grades Language Arts and Social Studies Teacher Education Program at North Carolina State University. Beal holds degrees from the College of William and Mary, Duke University and North Carolina State University. As an educator for 34 years, her research interests have included theories of adolescent development, curriculum development and curriculum integration and global studies. Beal has received several university awards for her teaching and outreach/extension and has led several research studies that examined the value of using curriculum integration as a teaching and learning approach in a technology enhanced environment. Pat Dalton

Pat Dalton is currently an Instructor in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction at NC State University. She received her bachelor’s degree in English from Wake Forest University. She also holds a Masters of Divinity Degree. Pat has taught in the public schools of North and South Carolina for 14 years and served as head of the Carolina Friends Middle School in Durham, NC, for 17 years. She believes that the core of all good teaching is establishing relationships with students, and she continues to practice that philosophy at NC State where she is enjoying the opportunity to teach future teachers. Matthew Ross

Matthew Ross is a Teaching Fellow at North Carolina State University. He is a junior in the Middle Grades Language Arts & Social Studies program. Matthew participated as a researcher/traveler in Dr. Beal's North Carolina’s 6th Grade Goes to Russia Project. He just completed Project MIRROR: Moral Inquiry through Reflection, Respect, Obligation, and Responsibility (a grant funded by The Kenan Institute for Ethics), in which he and a fellow undergraduate developed a curriculum to create an ideal atmosphere for the teaching and learning of moral courage and civic responsibility within a technologically-enabled environment. Matthew has also developed many websites in conjunction with various professors at NC State University, including Dr. Beal and Pat Dalton. These sites are linked below.

Cindy Privette

Cynthia Privette, Outreach Coordinator at Centennial Campus Middle School, has been with the Wake County Public School System for 23 years. During that time she served in various capacities including teaching fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade. Part of her experience includes the organization and coordination of a program for at-risk adolescents at Zebulon Middle School. This experience led her to a position as Program Director for Communities In Schools of Wake County before taking on the role of Outreach Coordinator at Centennial Campus Middle School. Her educational experience led her to Peace College with associate degrees in liberal arts and accounting. She continued her education at Atlantic Christian College and later received her Masters In Education from East Carolina University. Her educational interests presently include areas of curriculum and instruction, collaboration in school environments and how it relates to student success, and the benefit of partnerships within schools. She has presented on various topics at the National Middle School Conference and the Magnet Schools of America Conference, and the Conference for At-Risk Youth.
