STEM-Focused Elementary Education Program

The Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education offers a science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) focus unique among undergraduate elementary teacher education programs.

The Master of Education (MEd) and Master of Science (MS) programs are designed for those who already hold a current teaching certificate.  

These programs are especially tailored to provide candidates with strong content knowledge and application skills necessary to address student learning in the classroom, providing their future students with a deep knowledge of content and promoting critical thinking and communication skills that are beneficial in the workplace and in daily living.

Faculty in the Elementary Education Department are associated with PhD programs in their content areas of expertise, working in the PhD in the departments of the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Education or Curriculum, Instruction and Counselor Education.

ELM Highlights

Using art to strengthen teaching in mathematics, science, literacy and other subjects is a skill that Natalia Disney (BS Elementary Education 2010) honed in her education at NC State. In 2013, the A+ Schools Program of the North Carolina Arts Council awarded Disney the Gerry D. Howell A+ Educator of the Year.
