Deidre Yancey is one of two academic advisors for the Elementary Education Department. Specifically, Deidre works with incoming first-year and second-year students in the Elementary Education major, and ensures that they understand the curriculum, required courses, and academic policies and procedures. Deidre also prepares students for registration each semester, helping them identify necessary courses and how to successfully build their schedules.
In addition to advising, Deidre also serves as co-instructor of USC 101D Freshman Advancement Seminar for the College of Education, a course designed to help teach transitional skills, study skills, and critical thinking skills for incoming first-year students of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
Prior to her appointment at NC State, Deidre served as an Academic and Learning Skills Coach at UNC-Greensboro, where she was also an instructor for SAS 100 Strategies for Academic Success. Deidre received her Master’s Degree in Counseling and Educational Development with a concentration in Student Development in Higher Education from UNC-Greensboro in 2005.
When she’s not at NC State working with students, Deidre enjoys being wife to her husband Danny, and mom to their 2-year old son, and daughter due in October 2008. Deidre is also active in her church and enjoys cooking and reading in her spare time.
