This mission of the Department of Elementary Education at North Carolina State University is to develop teacher leaders who have a deep, general content knowledge with a focus in science and mathematics, expert pedagogy, and a commitment to equity and social justice.

The Department of Elementary Education within the College of Education offers both a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education and a Masters in Elementary Education. Both of these programs are uniquely designed to prepare education professionals for the 21st century.  In addition, students will be prepared to teach diverse populations.

B.S. in Elementary Education

The selective and highly innovative B.S. program emphasizes mathematics, science, and technology-areas of high need in North Carolina public elementary schools. Students applying for this program should exhibit an interest in math or science.

The program requires students to be full-time undergraduates. Each class (Fr, Soph, Jr, and Sr) will be restricted to 60 students. If there are openings available in either the sophomore or junior cohorts due to attrition, accepted students will be considered for the program on a case by case basis. Beginning their junior year, these students will be placed in cohorts of 30 and they will take all of their professional courses together, from 8:00 am-3:00 pm.
