Keeping Your Anti-Virus Current

Anti-Virus programs are virtually useless if their virus definitions are not up to date. Most installations will periodically check and update definitions on their own but this may not always be the case. If your computer is powered off for a period of time, or not plugged into the network or if for some reason the service simply fails it is always a good idea to make sure your definitions are up to date.

To do this, simply double-click on the Norton Shield in the systray on the bottom right of your desktop.

This will bring up a Norton Configuration window that will have a visible virus definitons date

If this date is more 1-2 weeks old it is possible that a new virus has been found and your computer is vulnerable! If this is the case be sure to click the "Live Update" button to manually update your definitions. You will then see a screen that looks like the following:

Click "Next" and Norton will begin processing your new updates as so:

The installation will complete and you computer will now be protected against all known viruses and you can continue to work safely and securely.
