Programs in Curriculum and Instruction Generalist with Curriculum-Instructional Specialist License: Program Admissions

REQUIREMENTS

In addition to the official application, the Graduate School requires the following:

  • Two official transcripts from all colleges and universities previously attended (for full graduate standing, an applicant must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university  and must have at least a “B” (3.0/4.0) average in the undergraduate or in the latest graduate degree program);
  • Three recommendations from people who know of the applicant’s academic record and potential for graduate study;
  • An official report of the applicant’s Graduate Record Exam (GRE) or the MAT (these must be no older than 5 years);
  • A list of courses in progress (e.g., Post-Baccalaureate  Studies (PBS) at NC State University). Note that PBS hours cannot be Pass/Fail to count toward the graduate degree;
  • A statement of professional goals to be accomplished through advanced study (500-800 words);
  • Three years teaching experience.
  • An interview, if requested by the department.

When all requested information has been received, the Department will meet and make recommendations for admission to the graduate program.  Selection of students for the Curriculum and Instruction Generalist M.Ed. with License is based on accomplishments in professional practice, performance on standardized measures of academic abilities, principled commitment to the learner, and professional goals.

DEADLINES

Departmental guidelines for submission of all materials is:

October 1 ( for Spring admission) and
March 1 (for summer or fall admission).

**Note: These dates are earlier than the Graduate School’s generic deadline.  An applicant must ensure that the application is complete.  Thirty (30) days before a due date, an applicant may request that the Graduate Secretary of the Department (Ms. Irene Armstrong, 515-1772) check an application for completeness.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Prior to admission the student may enroll in courses through the NC State Division of Lifelong Learning. Courses taken as PBS or Post-Baccalaureate Student, may be transferred into the program. To transfer credit into the program, the student must be advised by the Department of Curriculum and Instruction and receive letter grade credit. No more than 9 semester hours are transferable from the PBS classification.
