within the College of Education...
The college maintains several student computer labs in Poe Hall, including: Poe 106 (Windows XP, 25 seats), Poe 414 (Windows XP, 24 seats), Poe 414a (Multimedia Lab), Poe 417 (Windows XP, 20 seats), Poe 420 (Windows XP, 23 seats), and Poe 422 (Mac OSX, 19 seats). Lab schedules are posted online.
Wireless access to the Internet is also available throughout Poe Hall.
Learning Technologies in the college provides recurring workshops on new technologies like podcasts and iTunesU, social networking sites, and tools for faculty and students including a recent video sharing service and Voicethread server.
The college Media Center serves as a branch of the university library, providing access to state textbooks and educational videos and software programs used in K-12 instruction. In addition, the media center provides a centralized location from which students can check out technology equipment, including laptops, digital cameras, audio recorders, digital video recorders, tv/dvd carts, and more.
The college's Friday Institute for Educational Innovation opened in the Fall of 2005 on NC State's Centennial Campus, and includes flexible space for teaching and research situated around five collaboratories, including the Instructional Technology collaboratory. |

The Instructional Technology Division's (ITD) Computing Essentials Web site is your one-stop shop for all things technology on campus.
University computing labs are maintained by the Information Technology Division. Of the nine main labs, six are open 24 hours a day. A listing of software applications available on Unity computing machines is available online.
Students may utilize the NC State University Libraries Digital Media Lab to create and convert digital media documents and files. The facility provides an open lab as well as a private studio for audio/video editing that can be reserved in four hour blocks of time. The Usability Research Laboratory in the university library exists to help interested faculty, students, and staff learn the benefits of a user-centered approach to design and to support usability testing. The lab is equipped to collect video, audio, and computer data in real time for observation and analysis. |
The Assistive Technologies Center (D.H. Hill Library, Room 1402, Mezzanine) houses technologies to facilitate library research and alternate format access to library materials for users with a variety of vision, hearing, and/or mobility related disabilities. The facility provides magnification software, scanning equipment, screen reading software, and other equipment for use by patrons.
The university library recently opened their Learning Commons, providing a flexible access computer lab with a host of equipment available for check out, including laptops, digital cameras, camcorders, ipods, GPS units, USB flash drives, graphing calculators, and voice recorders.
Several conference rooms are available on campus for small groups to meet. These can be reserved by students, staff, and faculty, in blocks of time. Two Flyspaces can be reserved in the Talley Student Center (2 hour blocks).

Wireless. You can access online resources and the Web wirelessly in various buildings and open spaces on campus (see map). Your laptop or PDA/handheld must have a wireless card compatible with the 802.11b wireless standard, and your card must be configured to receive 'ncsu' signals (read more about configuration settings). File and Web Space. The university network uses the Andrew File System (AFS), allowing you to access saved files in different physical locations. 350mb of free network file space is available to store files, email, and Web pages on the university network. Use the file allocation tool to change your file space allocation between AFS file space, email space, and Web space. Use the WWW setup tool to establish a Web directory as part of your file space.
RefWorks is a Web-based citation management tool that enables users to store, manage, and output (in a variety of styles) bibliographic references from various online article databases.

RSS. Really simply syndication (RSS) service is provided on campus by the NCSU Libraries and ITD in the form of Libcast and Wolfcast. Users may subscribe to and access broadcasted information through a player on their desktop computer (e.g., ipodder). NC State also recently started its own campus on iTunesU. |
WolfBlogs is a service provided by the university libraries through which students can initiate and maintain a public blog with reflections. Some courses in the I.T. program utilize WolfBlogs as part of class activities.
Software and Training. View a listing of all available software at NC State. Graduate students are eligible to register for numerous technology workshops on available software at NC State. Browse training offerings by DELTA's Learning Technology Service (LTS), and the Information Technology Division (ITD).
Webmail. Access your NC State e-mail via the Web.
Wolfprint. Access the campus printing network, add money to your print quota, and print to a selected campus printer.
