Current Projects

Recent cognitive tool research includes studies of Web-based concept mapping to help students synthesize and relate information from course texts, Web-based annotation tools to help students write analogical reflections on visual and text-based prompts (synectics), and various Web 2.0 tools to help students practice historical thinking skills as they inquire into a collection of primary sources about 19th century plantation life (see http://plantationletters.com/). Recent program evaluations conducted through the Friday Institute for Educational Innovation include state-funded studies of one-to-one computing in early college high schools and of the new state virtual public school.
