Community Agency Counseling

(Master's Degree Concentration Area)

This curriculum area has been designed for those who wish to become counselors and/or related "helping" personnel for community agencies. There is a dual emphasis on counseling and assessment skills as well as advocacy roles for the community based professional. In addition to direct service, there is also a focus on the training director, workshop leader role. The program is designed to meet the standards of the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP).

Graduates of the concentration are eligible to sit for the National Counselor Examination, a step in the process of becoming a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in North Carolina.

Courses in Specialization:

ECD 536 Community Service Agencies
ECD 651 Internship in Agency Counseling
PSY 476 Psychology of Adolescent Development
Other course work will be tailored to the individual's needs and occupational aspirations.
