Computing-Related Competencies
The Department of Adult and Higher Education believes that our effectiveness as individuals and as members of the academic community is enhanced through knowledge and engagement in computer technology support environments. Because faculty, staff and students need to access, work, research, and learn in a computer technology support environment, the department has established initial standards for incoming students. These standards reflect knowledge and skills to access and operate in a collaborative instructional technology environment and also to function in the university world of computer-supported administration, research, and information retrieval.
This site has been designed to enhance student and faculty awareness and knowledge of AHE computer-related competencies to include: technology standards for effective use of computer-related resources, library and information computing standards to provide resource access, and academic and administrative information standards to provide computing access through the NCSU systems. Incoming students will be expected to pass a competency test.
Through ongoing faculty and student discussions, these standards will be re-examined and modified. In particular, we will pay close attention to both new department initiatives, as well as new activities in our respective key stakeholder communities. We welcome your suggestions and comments.
