SURVEYS

NILIE offers two customized organizational climate surveys to community colleges, colleges, and universities throughout United States and Canada. The climate surveys were designed to assess organizational climate from a unique perspective. The available instruments and their functions are described below.

The information and data generated from these surveys are prioritized and used to promote open and constructive communication and change within colleges. These studies support benchmarking for re-accreditation, state-wide accountability initiatives, and strategic planning processes. The information generated from the analysis can be used for improvement strategies within the college.

1. PACE - Personal Assessment of the College Environment

The purpose of the PACE instrument is to promote open and constructive communication and to establish priorities for change by obtaining the satisfaction estimate of employees concerning the campus climate. Items on this instrument are divided into four domains: institutional structure, supervisory relationship, teamwork, and student focus.

2. SACE - Student Assessment of the College Environment

We recommend that you administer the SACE in conjunction with the PACE in order to gain more information about the PACE student focus climate factor. The PACE measures student perception of the instructional services environment, student development environment, administrative and physical environments, and student focus environment of the organization. The purpose of the SACE instrument is to promote open and constructive communication and to establish priorities for change by obtaining the satisfaction estimates of students concerning the campus climate. Items on this instrument are divided into five areas: instructional services environment, student development environment, administrative and physical environment, student focus environment, and social and cultural environment. Five research questions are answered in institutional reports to include priorities for change. Sample SACE questions.

Customized Data Collection

Demographic questions to ascertain the specific classification of respondents may be developed by the institution. Examples include respondents' length of service on campus, length of service in education. Additional questions that relate directly to the mission of the institution can also be included.

Institutions have an option of including a written comments section for respondents to express areas they are most and least satisfied with in their own words. These comments often provide excellent ideas for addressing campus issues.

Multi-college and multi-campus data can be developed and analyzed separately if desired by districts or other organizational structures. Follow-up surveys can be compared back to baseline survey data.
