Graduate Program - Doctoral Admission

Current AHE Master’s Students Who Wish to Apply for the Doctoral Program

Any current master’s degree student in the final semester of completing a program in the department is eligible to request admittance into our doctoral program. Review the following guidelines associated with this process:

  1. Make formal request to Director of Graduate Programs, Dr. Duane Akroyd (duane_akroyd@ncsu.edu).
  2. Update Curriculum Vitae/Resume and submit to Graduate Program Assistant.
  3. Update Personal Goal Statement to include how the program aligns with your future goals and research interests and submit to Graduate Program Assistant.
  4. Submit three references. Use this link to get the forms, http://www.ncsu.edu/grad/faculty-and-staff/forms-list.html

It is under “general forms” and listed as “Recommendation/reference form”

5. GRE scores submitted for your master’s application may be used but they must be less than five years old. The department only recognizes GRE scores.

You may submit updated application materials by hard copy or electronically to Ms. Shana Scott, Graduate Program Assistant, 300 L Poe Hall, shana_scott@ncsu.edu.

If you are a May graduate submit by: January 20 prior to graduation
If you are a December graduate submit by: September 20 prior to graduation

The faculty program committee will review your application file along with other incoming applicants, make a decision based upon the number of enrollment openings, and forward a memo to the Graduate School in regards to that decision.

If you are accepted into a doctoral program with no break in registration from the time you graduate with your master’s (summer school not included), you are eligible to transfer 36 hrs of coursework rather than the customary 18 hrs.

Note: If you submit your request after you have conferred your master’s degree you will be required to submit a new application and fee.
