Assistantships and Part-time Work Opportunities

Department Assistantships: Assistantships come with a stipend for the academic year, health insurance (above the basic student health coverage), and paid tuition. These positions are available in limited numbers and doctoral students generally receive preference. Assistantships require a commitment of 20 hours a week and full-time student standing.

Part-time positions: These are hourly positions in a variety of offices and projects across campus.   For those in student affairs, they may come with benefits such as professional development money, but do not usually include tuition and health insurance. These positions usually require a commitment of 20 hours a week and may be located at NCSU, Meredith College, Duke University, Peace College, or UNC-Chapel Hill.

Resident Directors: These positions are based in NCSU and a few nearby institutions.  The RD’s typically receive a stipend, housing and food, health insurance, and paid tuition. RDs work approximately 30 hours a week and are required to live in an NCSU ( or other institution’s) residence hall. RD positions at other institutions are available but have different financial packages, which exclude NCSU tuition.
