The Noyce Mathematics Education Teaching Scholars [Noyce METS] aims to increase the number of highly qualified mathematics teachers prepared at NC State University with a major in a mathematical science and a major in mathematics education. These scholars will develop an understanding of mathematics needed for teaching, be well-prepared to be leaders in technological innovation to improve student understanding in mathematics classrooms, and be committed to working with students in high-needs school districts.
The Noyce METS program will fund 3 cohorts of students in 2008-2011. Each undergraduate NCSU Noyce Scholar will receive two years of funding ($10,000 each yr) while NCSU Noyce Scholars at the post-baccalaureate and graduate level will receive one year of funding ($20,000 each).
Faculty across three disciplines serve as the project leaders for this NSF-funded scholarship program.
