I received a Bachelor of Science in
Mathematics from NC State University in 1997, and a Master of Science
in Applied Mathematics from NC State University in 1998.
After working 9 years in the software consulting business, I decided to
follow my heart’s desire to become a high school mathematics
teacher. The Noyce scholarship has given me opportunity to
return to NC State as a full time student and extend my goal of
obtaining a 9-12 mathematics license by also pursuing an advanced
license that leads to a Master's in Mathematics Education. As
I transition into my new career, I come with a passion to make a
difference and I am eager to apply my professional and educational
experiences in the high schools of North Carolina
I am currently a Ph.D. student in
Mathematics Education. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics
from Hampton University and a Master of Education in Mathematics
Education from N.C. State University. I was excited at the
opportunity to participate in the NOYCE program for a number of
reasons. First and most importantly, I truly have a desire to work with
high needs students. I know what it feels like to be written off as a
student, told that you have no potential and to feel like the services
you are getting are second best. This is a very unfortunate reality for
too many of our students. I feel that I can work to change this. I look
forward to being an excellent teacher for the students I will serve and
I also look forward to motivating other teachers to challenge and
support all of their students regardless of where the students are
from.
I am a senior double majoring in
Mathematics Education and Mathematics at NC State
University. Originally my family is from Mexico,
but I have lived most of my life in Yadkinville, NC. Having
grown up in a high-needs school district, I have experienced the need
and importance of having teachers that can truly relate the
mathematical concepts to real life experiences and situations while
using an array of teaching techniques. I aspire to be a
teacher that uses innovative teaching techniques and technology to help
students understand the concepts in districts where I am most needed.
My name is Jenny Ward and I am a junior
as well as a NOYCE scholar at NC State. I am excited to be a
member of the first cohort of NOYCE scholars because I see this as a
way for me to serve in high needs areas and to give all students equal
opportunities to succeed in the field of mathematics. Since
one of the requirements of the NOYCE undergraduate program consists of
working toward earning both a Mathematics Education and a Mathematics
degree, I feel that I can be a stronger math teacher because I will
have a broader knowledge of the subject. This, it turn will
be beneficial to me and allow me to better serve my potential high
needs students.
My name is Greg Ray and I'm a junior in
secondary math education and mathematics from Monroe, North
Carolina. What drives me to be a teacher is the idea that
teachers have a big impact on students. It is my goal to
serve students by providing the opportunity to succeed and to be an
active role model in the classroom when it comes to leading and serving
others.
